01About this supplement
This supplement explains how Pair handles your information. It adds to, and where it conflicts takes precedence over, the general Privacy Policy for your use of Pair. Pair is a private space designed for exactly two people.
02End-to-end encryption
Messages and photos you share in Pair are end-to-end encrypted. Content is encrypted on your device before it is sent, and only you and the person you are paired with hold the keys to decrypt it.
This means Aphelion cannot read your messages or view your photos. We store and transmit only encrypted data that is unintelligible to us and to our infrastructure providers.
03What we store, and where
To deliver Pair, we necessarily handle a small amount of data:
- Encrypted content — your encrypted messages and photos. Encrypted media is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS S3).
- Account & pairing identifiers — the minimal identifiers needed to connect your account with your partner's and route data between you.
- Technical metadata — limited operational data (such as timestamps and delivery status) needed to run the service and keep it secure.
04Keys & recovery
Encryption keys are central to Pair's privacy. Depending on your setup, keys are held on your device and/or protected by your credentials. If you lose access to your keys and any recovery method you have set up, your encrypted content may be permanently unrecoverable — by design, we cannot recover it for you. Please follow any in-app guidance to set up and safeguard recovery.
05No content-based advertising or training
Because your content is end-to-end encrypted, we do not and cannot use it for advertising or to train AI models. Pair has no content-based ads.
06Deletion
You can delete content and your account from within Pair. Deleting removes content from your view and initiates deletion of the associated encrypted data from our systems, subject to routine backup cycles and any retention the law requires.
